The recent dairy by xaxnar entitled Josh Marshall: "The Crisis Is Upon Us" points to the fact that we NOW need to be prepared to respond immediately as soon as “the fit hits the shan.” So what are you gonna do?

Yes, I know many of us will hit the streets ASAP, but can we make this much bigger than just those willing go downtown to a protest gathering? Can we make this go Network big? Now getting people to stick their heads out their windows and scream something is not likely to work. But there is another easier-to-do tactic that can draw in large numbers of people — Cacerolazo.

Cacerolazo, (aka cacerolada or casserole) is a time honored tactic of banging on pots and pans as a form of protest. From Wikipedia (more detailed history there)

A cacerolazo, cacerolada, or casserole is a form of popular protest which consists of a group of people making noise by banging pots, pans, and other utensils in order to call for attention. It arose in some Spanish-speaking countries (in particular Venezuela, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, Ecuador, Cuba, Peru, Spain) and has been seen more recently in English- and French-speaking countries, most notably Quebec, as well as in Turkey during the 2013 protests in Turkey and Brazil during the 2015 protests in Brazil.

What is peculiar about this type of demonstration is that people can protest from their own homes, thus achieving a high level of support and participation.

If you are home when this all comes down (in whatever form it comes down), this is something you can start in your neighborhood. Grab a pot or a pan and a spoon and start banging away.

Now this is not likely to work in isolation. Talk with your neighbors — find others in your neighborhood who will be willing to join in. Talk with you coworkers — hopefully you have some who will also be responsive to this suggestion.

The beauty of this type of protest is that if it catches fire, it can be huge. It can draw in people who would not normally go to a protest. If it doesn’t work, nothing lost except maybe for dents in your pan. And it’s very difficult to counter protest — any noise the opposition tries to make just adds to the noise from The Resistance.
